How Are You Coaching the Team?
In the middle of the proverbial game, your team is constantly making decisions.
They’re evaluating the circumstances.
Reading the defense.
Working through barriers.
Assessing their strengths and limitations.
And making the best decision they can with the information available in that moment.
As a leader, the question is:
Are you giving them room to make those decisions—or only judging the outcome afterward?
Before you rewind the film and tell them what they should have done, understand why they made the decision they made.
What did they see?
What information did they have?
What options did they consider?
That’s where coaching begins.
Coaching isn’t simply pointing out what went wrong. It’s helping someone expand the way they think, consider alternative approaches, and become better equipped for the next decision.
Your team won’t always approach a problem the way you would.
And they shouldn’t have to.
The goal of coaching isn’t to create replicas of yourself. It’s to develop people who can think, adapt, and execute confidently on their own.
So, how are you coaching your team?
Lead authentically.
Lead intentionally.
Lead with impact.
