How are you building relationships?

One of the most common leadership missteps is only talking to your team when work needs to get done.

Leadership isn’t built solely through task lists, meetings, and performance reviews.

It’s built through relationships.

Sometimes, the most meaningful conversations have nothing to do with work.

Ask questions like:

• What are your plans this weekend?

• How was your weekend?

• Where are you originally from?

• What’s your favorite vacation spot?

• What’s your favorite sport or team?

The questions themselves aren’t what’s important.

The connection is.

When people know you genuinely care about them—not just the work they produce—they’re more likely to trust you, communicate openly, and engage with the team.

As an added benefit, you’ll gain a better understanding of their strengths, motivations, and aspirations, allowing you to better support their growth and development.

“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

People may work for an organization…

But they choose to follow leaders who value them as people.

Lead authentically.

Lead intentionally.

Lead with impact.
